Insufficient storage available error

I think many Android users have run into this problem. And it is not a surprise, as the smartphone accumulates junk files during its work. Cached and residual files, unnecessary applications – all of this takes up valuable megabytes. How to fix “insufficient storage available” error? Let’s try to solve this problem.

Method 1. Remove unnecessary applications

So, the first thing that comes to mind is to remove unnecessary apps. Do you really use all programs and games you have installed? If not – delete, don`t keep them in vain. Find an app you are no longer interested in?

  1. Go to Menu –> Settings –> Apps.
  2. Menu Settings Apps

Choose the application you want to delete and click “Uninstall”.

Choose the application you want to delete

Not all applications can be removed in a standard way. These apps are pre-installed system programs. Many of them are useless and just take up storage space on your device. You can delete these apps, but to do this you need root-rights. This method is quite risky and may result in unstable operation of your gadget. Apply this method only if you are sure that uninstalling does not cause a system failure.

System applications can be stopped/disabled. This method is safer, you just pause the application, so you can restore it at any time.

Method 2. Clear the cache

Another effective way of solving this problem is to clear the cache. Each application stores temporary data – cache. What for? Cached files are used to speed up the loading of apps or previously visited web pages. For example, you are watching a video on YouTube or surfing the web, all the data is cached. The next time you return to this web page, it will be loaded much faster, as its files have already stored on the device.

But each time the apps accumulate more and more cached data, and the memory is getting smaller. As a result, the smartphone is running slower. Clearing the cache helps not only free up space, but also optimize and speed up your gadget. How to clear the cache?

Clear the cache manually

Cache can be cleared manually. To do this:

  1. Go to “Settings”.
  2. Choose the “Storage” tab, then “Cached data”.
  3. storage tab

    Cached Data Tab

  4. In the popup box click “OK”.

Clear Cached data

In such a way you will clear cached data for all apps and free up storage space.

Clear the cache selectively

If you want to clear cache selectively, then:

  1. Go to “Settings”.
  2. Choose the “Apps” tab. Here you will find the information on all downloaded applications. To find out how much space takes a certain app or its cached data, click on it. If you want to clear the cache of an application, tap the “Clear cache” button.

  3. Clear the cache selectively

Method 3. Cleaning smartphone of junk files using cleaner apps

You can clear your Android-device out of unnecessary junk files with special programs. For example, CleanMaster. An application copes with the task. CleanMaster allows you to clean the device of residual files and ad junks, move applications, back up, boost phone speed, scan viruses.

Getting back to the system cleaning. To do this:

  1. Launch CleanMaster.
  2. junk files

  3. Click “Junk Files”. After pressing this button, the program will start the scanning process.

Method 4. Move applications to SD-card

This method is suitable for users of devices running Android 2.2 till Android 4.3. By default, all applications are installed on the internal memory, but you can move them to SD-card. How to do it?

  1. Go to Settings > Applications > Application Manager.
  2. Choose the app you want to move.
  3. Settings Applications

    Manage applications tab

  4. Click “Move to SD card”.
  5. Move Application to sd Card

Note: The “Move to SD-card” button can be grayed. This means that the app can not be moved to SD-card, as it should be stored on the internal memory only.

If your tablet or smartphone doesn`t have the “Move to SD-card” button, then this function is not implemented on your OS version.

Method 5. Move personal files to SD-card

User’s personal files (video, photos, downloaded images and music) tend to be stored on the internal memory. Obviously, they consume storage space. To move personal files to SD-card, use the file manager. Look through such folders as Download, DCIM, Bluetooth, Music, Pictures. Maybe there you`ll find files that can be moved and free up space.

Hope, you have succeeded in fixing this annoying error and installed the application easily. To avoid getting clogged again, use cleaner apps and regularly clean your device of cached and unnecessary files.
